JOB GRADE 113, 40 hr/wk 12 months

 

SUMMARY:  To perform semiskilled and skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks pertaining to school facilities, offices and large buildings; to assist other maintenance personnel in the performance of semiskilled and skilled functions in one or more building and maintenance trade areas; and to do other related work as required. To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

 

This position differs from a General Maintenance position by the nature and complexity of the maintenance work involved as well as amount and nature of maintenance functions required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintains a cooperative relationship with fellow staff members, students, and the general public.
  • Adheres to and enforces district, state, and federal laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments.
  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, woodwork, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile and pump and fan repairs.
  • Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as plowing, salting, field marking and maintenance of underground sprinkling systems.
  • Deals with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
  • Operates equipment as needed.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.
  • Completes other duties assigned by the maintenance supervisor.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic methods, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction functions;
  • Rules, regulations, and operational procedures pertaining to the repair, maintenance, and construction of school buildings, machines, and equipment;
  • Safe working methods and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Skillfully use a variety of tools and equipment utilized in one or more of the basic maintenance trades;
  • Work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches;
  • Maintain simple records and prepare reports;
  • Assist in the training and orientation of custodial personnel;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill could be:

  • Experience:

Two years of experience as a semiskilled or skilled worker in one or more of the basic maintenance trades.

  • Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specific training in one or more of the maintenance trades.

  • Condition of Employment

Maintenance of Asbestos 16-hour certification

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
