This is a part-time position at the Sweet Home Community Pool performing aquatic guard duties, teaching swim lessons and classes to a variety of groups and individuals and assists the Swimming Pool Supervisor with the day-to-day operations.  The Aquatics Shift Supervisor is primarily responsible for supervising on-duty part-time Aquatics personnel in the absence of the Swimming Pool Supervisor, overseeing front desk activity and program operations, providing a high level of customer service, and ensuring guest and employee safety, administering emergency care as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Provides for the safety of swimmers and other guests using the facilities; ensures that lifeguards vigilantly monitor guests in assigned areas of responsibility; initiates and oversees the provision of services to guests.
  • Performs rescues and administers emergency care and assessment as trained and necessary.
  • Supervises and provides direction to on-duty personnel, including lifeguards and instructors; including but not limited to assisting with performance evaluations, staff development and training, conflict resolution etc.
  • Attend and participates in all required in-service training; may also lead and participate in training lifeguards and instructors.
  • May be required to work in the capacity of a swim instructor, group exercise instructor and lifeguard as well as handling front desk operations.
  • Will be required to fill in for other staff who may be off due to vacation or illness; will be required to manage staffing levels when staff are on vacation or fail to come in for a shift.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, which includes: unlocking and locking doors, checking the building for patrons while closing, turning on and off building lights, checking pool chemicals, opening the cash register for the day or counting the till at closing. 
  • Provides customer service to guests at the font counter and registers guests for programs, including, but not limited to assisting at the front desk with daily admissions, memberships, lesson registration, and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
  • Provides information and assistance to the public regarding swimming pool programs and schedules.
  • Performs clerical work in a professional manner such as, making and answering phone calls, various typing jobs, filing, daily turnover and photocopying.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in and around the swim facility including janitorial tasks.

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a customer service oriented employment
  • Previous experience in a leadership role desired

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Attendance must be consistent and punctual; an employee in this position must maintain a high degree of reliability.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification or be able to obtain within 3 months of hire.

DESIREABLE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must possess a current and valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor Course Completion Certificate or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
